The story centers on Maya Lin, a stunning 25-year-old dark-skinned Black woman who begins the series working as a minimalist head chef at an underworld lounge called The Velvet Vault. Maya lives in a state of static, unmoving sorrow, completely consumed by her past. However, her life is violently disrupted due to an accidental exposure to a highly unstable corporate chemical compound in the lower tiers.
