When Retro was a baby, he found a tadpole in a small pond that he wanted to keep as a pet, which his mom gladly allowed. THEN when Retro's father was tasked to buy tadpole food, he instead went to their cryptobiologist neighbor Dr. Hanzon and pestered him to give him the food. Annoyed, Dr. Hanzon gave him some scrap chemicals to shut him up. When the tadpole was exposed to said chemicals, he became an anthropomorphic frog named Phil and from then on, Retro and Phil became best buddies.
