After the discovery of DNA residue in fossils, the DNA of long extinct life forms could be artificially reproduced, paving the way to bring back creatures such as dinosaurs, trilobites and gorgonopsids. One of the applications of DNA residue was to show these long gone life forms alive and well to the public and to improve on scientific knowledge of the history of life on Earth.
